Are you or your child scared of dogs?
Abi's Pawfect Pals can help you to overcome these fears using a proven programme designed by Kids Around Dogs®

Does this limit where you can visit as a family?
I can completely empathise with you or your child feeling scared; having a phobia. I spent from early childhood into my late-thirties terrified of snakes. Just a glimpse of a picture or even a conversation about them would lead to night terrors and panic attacks. However yes, that's a photo of me holding a snake (and smiling!). Fears CAN be overcome and it can be life-changing!

The Kids Around Dogs® protocol uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques. Our mind can condition us to think that dogs are scary and we need to fear them, potentially due to something that has happened to us in the past. CBT is used to change negative thoughts about dogs into positive ones by looking at body language, personality and things they have in common with humans.

I am trained to work with the individual child (or adult) and am guided by their needs and choices. There is never ever pressure to do anything you or they don't feel comfortable with. Positive reinforcement is used throughout, rewarding the participant for completing tasks or games between sessions. All of the dogs assisting are either trained or assessed to ensure they are suitable and happy to take on this important role.
Jack's success story ... in his Mum's words ...

I got in touch with Abi in a moment of real desperation about my 12 year old’s extreme fear of dogs. Things had been getting steadily worse and we’d reached the point where Jack was reluctant to leave the house and hadn’t been properly to the park for about eighteen months. His fear was impacting on the whole family and causing lots of distress. Abi was wonderful, hugely reassuring and realistic about what might be achieved.
Jack enjoyed the Zoom sessions and found the ‘homework’ challenges and rewards very motivating. Abi has a great manner and is experienced at working with children, especially those with neurodivergent needs, which coupled with her knowledge about dogs makes for a great combination.
When it came to meeting Abi’s dogs in person, Jack was worried beforehand, but Abi’s sensitive and calm approach meant that he was able to progress at his own pace. By the last session, he was able to play ball with Willow off the lead, pet and walk her on his own and even managed to stay calm when an unknown dog approached us. This would have been inconceivable a couple of months ago!
I can’t thank Abi and her three lovely dogs enough for giving Jack the knowledge and the confidence to confront his fears.
... and in his own words too ...
Before I felt like I couldn’t even go out or into any parks but now I feel more confident about going into parks and being near dogs. I enjoyed playing with Willow the most, who is really playful. I found Parker really calm and Cleo, who is the youngest, I enjoyed playing ball with her when she was on her lead.
